Website

The Pointe-au-Père Lighthouse played a key role in the history of navigation on the St. Lawrence. Built in 1909, the existing lighthouse is the third to be erected on this site and the second tallest in Canada. The Pointe-au-Père Lighthouse celebrated its centennial in 2009.

Accompanied by an interpreter guide, climb to the top of this unusual structure and take in the view of the St. Lawrence.

Visit River Sentinels, the new exhibition in the lightkeeper’s house, which will guide you through the captivating world of the lightkeepers and the pilots of the St. Lawrence, at the time when the pilot station was in Pointe-au-Père.

Be sure to also visit the Onondaga, the first submarine open to the public in Canada, and the Empress of Ireland Museum, which commemorates the tragic sinking of the Empress of Ireland ocean liner through a multimedia show as well as a large exhibition of artefacts rescued from the wreck. Both the submarine and the museum are right next to the lighthouse.

Managed in partnership with the Pointe-au-Père Maritime Historic Site, this national historic site is a remarkable witness to our maritime past.
