Snowmobiling in Côte-Nord: 5 Bridges Worth Crossing
A popular destination for snowmobilers, Côte-Nord has many rivers you can cross with your snowmobile, each with its own distinct characteristics. Here are five bridges you’ll ride over on your next trip from Tadoussac to Blanc-Sablon.
1. Bridge across the Portneuf River
A few kilometres outside the village of Portneuf-sur-Mer, snowmobile enthusiasts will enjoy crossing the bridge over the Portneuf River. About 30 metres (100 feet) long, it lights up at night, adding a touch of magic to your trip.
2. Bridge across the Betsiamites River
Just past Colombier, a snowmobile bridge will take you across the Betsiamites River, also known as Bersimis. Inaugurated in 2011, this bridge has made travel by snowmobile in this area much easier, since you previously had to take a shuttle via Route 138 to cross this river. This bridge is also appreciated for its width.
3. Bridge across the Manicouagan River
The most famous snowmobile bridge in Côte-Nord is undoubtedly the one across the Manicouagan River, which is the highest in North America! Located about halfway between Chute-aux-Outardes and Baie-Comeau, the bridge is 213 metres (700 feet) long and 28 metres (90 feet) high. Not surprisingly, crossing it is on many snowmobilers’ bucket lists!
4. Bridge across the Godbout River
Nearly 100 km (60 mi.) further east, just before the village of Godbout, Trans-Québec trail #3 will take you across the Godbout River in an area surrounded by magnificent boreal forest scenery.
5. Ice bridges on the White Trail
On the Lower North Shore, between Kegaska and Blanc-Sablon, snowmobiling is the only way to travel by land in the winter. During your ride, you’ll have the opportunity to cross many ice bridges, such as the one that will take you from Chevery to the island of Harrington Harbour, one of the most beautiful villages in Québec. Get ready for some unforgettable experiences!
Does this make you want to ride across the rivers of Côte-Nord by snowmobile this winter? Do you know other bridges that are worth the detour? Start planning your next snowmobile expedition in this region now!
