8 Beaches and Wharves to Visit in Bas-Saint-Laurent

Delimited to the northwest by the St. Lawrence, Bas-Saint-Laurent is a must-see for lovers of coastal scenery. Local wharves, shorelines and beaches are great places to contemplate this region’s incredible natural beauty. Here are eight sites to add to your itinerary.

1. Beach and wharf, Kamouraska

Renowned for beautiful sunsets, Kamouraska is a picturesque village worth a visit at any time of the day. To soak up a view of Île aux Corneilles (Crow Island), head to the municipal wharf. This peaceful, relaxing spot offers a serene atmosphere and is a perfect place to recharge your batteries.

2. Beach and wharf, Notre-Dame-du-Portage

After admiring the architecture of the village of Notre-Dame-du-Portage, where better to relax than by the water? The municipal wharf offers you the opportunity to enjoy an ice cream as you breathe in the salty sea air from the beach. And if you’d like to be on the water, you can launch a small boat from here.

3. Parc de la Pointe, Rivière-du-Loup

Just a few minutes from downtown Rivière-du-Loup, Parc de la Pointe offers stunning views of the St. Lawrence Estuary and the mountains of Charlevoix across the water. Take the time to stop for a picnic and go for a quiet stroll through the trees along the shore to admire the surrounding scenery.

4. Municipal beach, Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac (Notre-Dame-du-Lac sector)

The second largest lake south of the St. Lawrence, Lake Témiscouata offers an idyllic environment in which to enjoy nature. In the Notre-Dame-du-Lac sector, the municipal beach offers a family-friendly atmosphere. Visitors of all ages can enjoy the slides; paddleboards and kayaks are also available for rent. The beach is supervised by lifeguards, so don’t miss this opportunity to go in for a swim!

5. Pohénégamook Beach

Nearly one kilometre long and made of fine sand, the beach on Lake Pohénégamook is one of the most beautiful freshwater beaches in Québec. The site offers water sports equipment rentals and is home to the largest inflatable water park in the province, making it a prime destination for families.

6. Parc de la Grève Morency, Trois-Pistoles

Located on the outskirts of Trois-Pistoles on the aptly named Chemin de la Plage (Beach Road), Parc de la Grève Morency provides the only public access to the shores of the St. Lawrence in the Basques area. Take advantage of this park to relax and enjoy the sea air!

7. Parc national du Bic, Rimouski

An iconic natural treasure in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Parc national du Bic offers many access points to the water. Featuring capes and bays, the park’s shoreline is a popular place to watch sunrises over Anse à l’Orignal and sunsets in Baie du Ha! Ha! As you hike in the park, take the time to stop and admire the surrounding scenery and keep an eye out for seals basking on rocks!

8. Anse-aux-Coques Beach, Sainte-Luce-sur-Mer

At the eastern end of the region, the picturesque village of Sainte-Luce-sur-Mer captivates visitors. Go for a stroll along the boardwalk or sandy beach to the area’s famous colourful houses and soak up the relaxing atmosphere of this small seaside resort. Be sure to also admire the many wooden sculptures along the way!

From lakes to the sea, there’s something for everyone in Bas-Saint-Laurent. Whether you want to go for a swim or a stroll or simply pause and relax, the region offers many ways to access these bodies of water. With so many options, you’re bound to enjoy memorable moments by the shore in this region!
